Top 3 SEO Hacks That Really Work

There isn't a single miracle SEO technique that gets you ranked on the first page for a high search keyword. No doubt you have to devote some time and effort in your SEO strategy.

That said, let's skip to some things you can add to your SEO strategy that work almost every time! Professionals don't always share these secrets, but in this article you'll learn about the top 3 strategies for getting well positioned on Google.

HACK # 1. The Skycraper Technique (or Skyscraper)

This is by far my favorite SEO hack. It is a simple technique and you can repeat it over and over again for unbelievable results.

The first step is to find content related to your business that is on the first page of Google. You will probably find articles that have a proven track record as there are many links pointing to it.

Then evaluate how you can improve content * (more complete, updated content, better design, etc.).

Create a better version of the same article using the same topics and keywords. DO NOT copy the content word for word, you must make it yours, and it has to be done in a way that improves the quality of the original article.

As you want to improve your ranking chances, you must invest to get backlinks equal to or better than your competitors. And those articles that are on the front page can be sure to have extremely valuable links pointing to them.

What do you think about getting the same links as your competitors?

To do this, you will need to use a professional tool, such as SEMrush or Ahrefs, to find all pages that link to this article.

You must sort the pages by "importance". This can be Page Score or Page Authority, depending on the tool used.

Then find author contact information for all major pages. This is a manual process, so if there are thousands of backlinks, you should focus on the most important ones. Don't be discouraged at this stage, contacting the authors of these articles is the most important step!

The best way to do this is by emailing the site owners and telling them that you have a better article for them to link to!

If you can't find the email addresses of those responsible, a cool tip is to use the Google Chrome extension called Hunter.io that can extract emails according to the site's domain. Most of the time the tool can find emails from decision makers, which will be very useful for you.

If you don't use Google Chrome, Hunter.io is a web tool too, and can be used from any browser. Best of all, it's free!

Well, after finding emails from the site owners that you want a backlink, it's time to send an email. If you are not used to writing emails to grow your online business, this part may seem complicated. It can be challenging to get in touch with people you don't know and you probably don't want to look too aggressive or naughty.

Here is a quick template you can use for email:

“Hello [name],

I was doing research on [topic of your choice] today and I found your page [URL].

While I was reading your article (great work by the way), I noticed that you are linking to [your competitor's article name].

The reason for my contact is because I recently created an article similar to this one, but more updated and more complete. I believe my article will help your visitors more and may be more useful for anyone reading.

It would be a pleasure to have my article mentioned in your text!

Well, thanks for your attention and I look forward to your reply.

A hug,

[your name] "

There are several variations on the Skyscraper technique, but this is the most direct way to start increasing your web presence today. You will also learn a lot by looking at the structure of other content that is positioned for your keyword, and you will be able to produce better and more informative text each time.

HACK # 2 Change your main keywords after publishing

When creating your content, you always want to use your primary keyword so that you can optimize it. Unfortunately, the truth is that you will not always reach the first page of Google with your main keyword due to the high degree of competition.

So, what you do? You have 3 options:

Continue to get links and optimize the page and wait for it to be placed.

Do nothing and stop.

Change your main keyword.

Lucky for you, there's a great hack based on Option 3. (And let's consider that Option 2 should not even be on this list).

It is common for you to rank your site in the top 3 or 4 for a different keyword than the one you have optimized.

For example, let's say you write an article called “How to Make the Best Chocolate Cookie”. Let's say you are trying to position this article for the keyword "how to make chocolate chip cookies".

Imagine this is your current Google snippet:

After a few days, you actually realize that you are ranked for 2 keywords:

“How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies” - 43rd position (Volume 15,000 searches / month)

“Easy-to-make chocolate chip cookie” - 38th position (Volume 5,000 searches / month)

So if you have invested in creating Wordpress sites , it will be easy for you to make some simple changes to your meta tags, header tags, and small text changes to your article to better reflect “easy chocolate chip cookies”.

Here's an example of what your snippet might look like after optimizations:

A few days later, here is an example of your new keyword rankings:

“How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies” - 57th position (Volume 15,000 searches / month)

“Easy-to-make chocolate chip cookie” - 7th position (Volume 5,000 searches / month)

This fictional example is to illustrate that sometimes you just have to listen to what the Google algorithm is telling you. (Remember, the ball owner is Google!)

If you are being well positioned for a particular keyword that you have not optimized as well then what are you waiting for? Optimize your article for this keyword! You will get a big improvement in the rankings!

This will allow you to get immediate results and help you get higher rankings, even for low volume keywords. Sometimes it's better to be a big fish in a small pond than completely invisible in an ocean!

HACK # 3 Improve your CTR, get people to click on your site

* Warning, this trick is a bit controversial because it is a little out of scope for the Google Best Practice Guidelines. Although it works, you should try to do it as “organic” as possible so that it is not considered Black Hat SEO.

As with any hack, the goal is to send STRONG signals to Google on a specific page to better position it. For this hack, we seek to optimize clickthrough rate (CTR).

All you have to do is improve your page's CTR based on your current position. If your link is ranked in 35th position but is getting a CTR as high as a page that is in the Top 1, it is likely to skip many positions.

If you get 100 people to search for your keyword and then go page by page on Google until they see your listing and click on it, you'll get great CTR scores and dramatically improve your chances of good placement. (Tip, make sure these visitors don't get in and out of your site quickly). (Ah, if you are thinking of clicking the site yourself 100 times, you may forget, it won't work ...)

As you can see, when you understand Google's algorithm, you can create your own hacks, and then you will be able to send strong signals about your site.

Undoubtedly there are many other hacks, but they will be for a next text!
